dit fest 2010

there was a thing in kent ohio called dit fest that happened on friday and saturday.

i worked on friday so i missed some things. jordan castro, mallory whitten, sam pink, and noah cicero came into the store i was working at. everyone was on adderall and looked really excited. i didn't take any adderall because i had spent the morning vomiting for some reason. sam pink ate a dead bug from the windowsill. they left. i didn't see sam pink read. after work i found them. we listened to richard wehrenberg read. he had a very good stage presence. megan boyle met us there. we walked back to my house and got really drunk. everyone seemed really fucked up. at one point jordan asked my gay roommate, aaron, what he thought about the word "faggot." it was amusing. jordan ordered pizza and while we were eating it aaron pointed out that it looked like everyone was eating cartoon pizza. it was true. the pizza was very cartoon-like.

everyone slept on the floor of my living room or on noah's air mattress. i felt bad for not having more couches or pillows or something. no one complained, though. everyone was very polite.

saturday noah, megan, sam, and i got breakfast and went to a bookstore. we looked for a koran to burn but couldn't find one. jordan and mallory went to pick up tao lin from the airport. we met at my house and took different pills and sometimes talked. shannon neale came to my house and we had some drinks. time went by and people did things and then jordan read at the festival. he was nervous and read a poem about his penis and everyone seemed to like it (the poem.) noah read a poem in a very aggressive manner. he seemed to be humping the microphone stand for a while and i thought it was funny. tao read from his book. there was a band who decided to set up before he read which i thought was rude. there was a strange young man who kept following tao and noah around the festival. he seemed to always be two inches behind tao. i thought it was funny.

everyone was really nice. it felt good to be nervous and quiet in a group of nervous and quiet people; different. it was a good weekend.

  1. I enjoyed reading this, Brittany. The part about Jordan's poem made me laugh.

  2. i'd put the odds of the "strange young man" being me at 75%.

drunk & "starstruck" isn't a good look for me. but in fairness, i certainly wasn't attempting to follow tao around so much as work up the courage to say "thanks for coming to my hometown".

but, i have a huge ego and think everything is about me, so maybe not.
